    To provide delegates with knowledge and skills that will allow them to ensure work is properly planned and organised, and that those involved in carrying out the work are competent and properly trained.

    Ladder Association courses are recognised by The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as the leading safety training when working with Ladders. For further information please download ‘LA455 Safe Use of Ladders and Stepladders – a brief guide’ which is the new guidance jointly produced by the Ladder Association and the HSE.

    This course aims to provide managers and supervisors with the knowledge to plan, organise and monitor safe ladder use. It covers managers' roles & responsibilities, current legislation, regulations & guidance, selecting the right equipment, assessing risks, aiming to ensure legal and best practices.

    This course is ideal for anyone responsible for managing ladder use at work including site managers, supervisors, safety officers, and team leaders. It's suitable for those who want to gain their Ladder Association Manager qualification.

    Q6. Are there any entry requirements?
    No formal qualifications or experience are needed, but delegates must have a good understanding of written and spoken English to complete the theory assessment. For additional support, please refer to Q13.

    How the Training Works 

    Q7. How is the training delivered? 
    This is a classroom-based theory course led by a qualified Ladder Association HSS Trainer. It includes interactive presentations, discussions, and group exercises aiming to help managers apply what they learn in real workplace situations.

    Q8. What should I bring on the day? 
    Please bring valid photo ID such as a passport, driving licence, or CSCS card. Delegates are also encouraged to bring their own lunch as this is not provided. Complimentary tea and coffee are available and your trainer can suggest nearby dining options if needed. 

    As this is a classroom-based theory course, PPE is not normally required. However, if access to your classroom is via one of our live operational sites, you’ll need full PPE to maintain site compliance and access your training room: safety boots, hi-vis vest/jacket, hard hat (preferably with a chin strap), protective gloves, eye protection, a long-sleeve top and trousers (shorts are not permitted). To confirm whether your training location requires PPE or you need help sourcing items, please contact us on 0345 605 0006 or email training@hss.com.

    Most of our training venues offer free on-site parking, although spaces may be limited.     Every LadderCard shows the level you're trained to use:
    • U = User: trained to safely use ladders and stepladders
    • INSP = Inspector: trained to inspect ladders and stepladders
    • INST = Instructor: trained to deliver Ladder Association courses

    The category shows which courses you've completed, e.g Ladders & Stepladders or Steps & Step Stools, so employers know exactly what qualification you have achieved.
