    This Legionella Course is designed for any member of staff who is or may become a Legionella Responsible Person, Deputy Responsible Person, or Duty Holder for premises that contain Hot and Cold Water, and Cooling Systems.

HSE guidance HSG274 on water systems, roles of Responsible Persons and Duty Holders, cooling tower management, risk assessment, control schemes, sampling, record keeping and legal duties.

    The classroom course runs over 1 day. For delegates completing the course remotely, the training is provided as a half-day live virtual session via Microsoft Teams.

    Q5. What's the difference between your other Legionella courses?
    We offer different Legionella courses for specific roles and responsibilities. 
    Legionella Awareness - City & Guilds: An entry-level, City & Guilds accredited awareness course designed for beginners, those needing a refresher or those who have limited experience with water hygiene or Legionella control, as it covers the basics of how legionella bacteria behave, how infection occurs, simple control and monitoring practices. 

    Legionella Training Cooling Systems Operative: An operative-level course designed for hands-on site staff and technicians. Suitable for individuals directly involved in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of cooling systems, including water hygiene technicians, maintenance, contractors, site staff, and those performing routine checks or minor remedial work. Requires a current Legionella Awareness certificate or equivalent to attend.

    Legionella Training: Responsible Person - City & Guilds: A management-level, City & Guilds accredited course designed for  delegates appointed as or about to become Responsible Person, Deputy Responsible Person, or Duty Holder for Hot & Cold water systems. It is designed for those individuals appointed to oversee and implement the management and control of Legionella risks in a workplace's water systems. Covers legal duties, risk assessment, control schemes and record-keeping.

    Q6. Who is this course suitable for? 
    This course is designed for any member of staff who is or may become one of the following: 
    • Responsible Persons: in charge of Legionella safety in your building.
    • Deputy Responsible Persons: supporting the Responsible Person or stepping in when needed.
    • Duty Holders: legally accountable employers or building owners.
    • Staff Managing Water or Cooling Systems: engineers, facilities managers, or maintenance staff who operate or maintain these systems, especially those with high-risk cooling systems.

    Q7. Are there any entry requirements?
    Yes. If you attend the course remotely, you must first complete the Legionella: Responsible Person training course before attending this training. For classroom or on-site training, no previous Legionella training experience is required as both modules are taught together.

    How the Training Works 

    Q8. How does remote training work?
    Remote training is delivered live by an experienced trainer via Microsoft Teams. You can interact in real-time, ask questions and participate in discussions just like in a classroom setting, from the comfort of your own location (e.g, at home or work).

    Q9. What should I bring on the day? 
    Valid ID: Please bring a valid form of photographic ID, whether remote or classroom. Acceptable forms of photo ID include passport, driving license, or CSCS card.

    Classroom/in-person: If you've booked to attend in person, you'll need PPE: safety boots, hi-vis vest/jacket, hard-hat (preferably with a chin strap), protective gloves, eye protection, safety footwear, long-sleeve top and trousers (shorts are not permitted). If you need help sourcing PPE, please call 0345 605 0006 or email training@hss.com. 

    Remote Course: You'll need an internet connected PC or laptop with a working webcam, microphone/speakers, plus a quiet space with no excessive distractions. Tablets and phones are not permitted. Please ensure Microsoft Teams is installed before your course start date. If you have any questions about your device requirements please contact us 0345 605 0006 before your course start date.

    Most of our training venues offer free on-site parking, although spaces may be limited.
