    This 6-day course combines classroom learning with practical sessions, aiming to give delegates the skills and knowledge required to work in licensed premises such as bars, pubs, clubs, hotels, stadiums and similar sectors.  

    The course covers the following key areas:

    Unit 1: Working in the Private Security Industry

    Delegates will explore the foundations of working in security, including:
    • Legal aspects of the private security sector
    • Health and safety for security operatives
    • Fire safety awareness 
    • Emergency procedures
    • Communication skills and customer care

    This unit focuses on the responsibilities of a door supervisor, including:
    • Behavioural standards and professionalism
    • Civil and criminal law relevant to security work

    • Licensing law 
    • Emergency procedures

    This section focuses on techniques to manage challenging situations safely, including: 
    • Avoiding conflict and reducing personal risk
    • Defusing tense situations
    • Resolving conflict and learning from experience

    Unit 4: Physical Intervention Skills 

    Practical skills for safely handling physical situations, including:

It provides a mix of practical and theoretical training that aims to support delegates applying for an SIA Door Supervisor licence. Delegates who successfully complete this training should be prepared to work in both licensed and unlicensed premises.

    • A Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work certificate 
    • ACT Awareness certificate
    • ACT Security certificate

    The Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors is a nationally recognised security qualification. The course covers the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely as a door supervisor, including security principles, conflict management, physical intervention, and emergency first aid.

    Q3. What's the difference between a CCTV Operator, Security Officer, and Door Supervisor? 
    Door Supervisor - Allows you to work in public-facing social settings, such as pubs, bars, nightclubs, and events where alcohol is served. The role involves managing entry, handling conflict, and physical intervention if required. This is the broadest licence, but a specialised role within the security industry that also allows you to work as a Security Officer. 

    Security Officer - Usually works in quieter environments such as offices, retail, warehouses, and construction sites. The role focuses on guarding property, patrolling, access control, and reporting incidents will less emphasis on conflict situations. This licence does not permit work on licensed premises or in a Door Supervisor role. 

    CCTV Operator - Specialises in monitoring surveillance systems in control rooms or security hubs. The role focuses on observing, detecting incidents, recording evidence, and supporting site or public space safety rather than physical guarding.

Based on SIA requirements, the course aims to help delegates understand their legal responsibilities, safe working practices, and the standard expected within the private security industry.

    Q7. Who is this course for? 
    This course is aimed at anyone looking to start or develop a career as a door supervisor in licensed or unlicensed premises. Delegates already in a door supervision role, who need to renew their SIA licence should book the separate Door Supervisor top up course instead.

    Q8. Are there any entry requirements?
    Yes. To attend this course, delegates need to be over 18 years old, hold a Level 3 Emergency First Aid certificate and have completed the ACT Awareness and ACT Security e-learning courses, which cover counter-terrorism and front-line security. Delegates should also be physically and medically fit to participate in physical activities and confident in written and spoken English. For additional support see Q16.

    Q9. What should I bring on the day? 
    Please ensure you come prepared with the following: 
    • Photographic ID: (Driving license, passport, or UK birth certificate) 
    • Certificates: Level 3 Emergency First Aid, ACT Security and ACT Awareness 
    • Proof of address: two proofs of address (utility bills, bank statements, NHS or job centre letters)
    • PPE: Please wear suitable clothing for classroom and practical exercises. Delegates are also required to bring PPE, including safety boots, hi-vis vest/jacket, hard hat (preferably chin strap), protective gloves, eye protection and suitable clothing that includes a long sleeve top and trousers (shorts are not permitted).
