    The private security industry is a rapidly growing sector. This is the perfect time to obtain your training to apply for your SIA licence as there is a significant shortage in the industry. A security career is perfect for anyone with a vested interest in protecting the yourself, your property and the general public.

    A Level 2 First Aid course is pre-requisite for this course. Please ensure this is booked, undertaken and passed prior to booking this course. Evidence of this will be required.

    The Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) Security e-learning course must be completed prior to undertaking this course. Evidence of Blue and Orange certificates will be required.

    The pre-learning Course Workbook must be completed prior to attending and brought on the first day of the course.

    This is a 1 day classroom and practical-based course which enables work within unlicensed premises such as schools, airports and shops.

    Unit 1: Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry
    • Understanding terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
    • How to recognise the common terror attack methods
    • How to recognise the actions to take in the event of a terror threat
    • How to identify the procedures for dealing with suspicious items
    • How to identify behaviours that could indicate suspicious activity
    • How to identify & how to respond to suspicious behaviour

    Unit 2: Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry
    • Identify responsibilities for personal safety at work
    • Identify situations that might compromise personal safety
    • Identify the risks of ignoring personal safety in conflict situations
    • State the personal safety benefits of undertaking dynamic risk assessments 
    • List ways to minimise risk to personal safety at work 
    • Recognise the different types of personal protective equipment relevant to the role of a security officer 
    • State the purpose of using body-worn cameras (BWC) 
    • Identify strategies that can assist personal safety in conflict situations 
    • Describe limits of own responsibility in physical intervention situations 
    • Identify types of harm that can occur during physical interventions 
    • Identify the personal safety advantages of mental alertness at work 
    • State the benefits of reflecting on personal safety experiences
    • Know what actions to take in relation to global (or critical) incidents

    This course is suitable for anyone wishing to renew their existing L2 Security Officer licence to continue working in the frontline of the private security industry. A licensed Security Officer can then apply for jobs in unlicensed premises.

    Delegates must:
    • have completed their L2 Security Officer course no less than 3 years prior to the Top-Up course start date.
    • hold an SIA Security officer licence which is currently valid.
    • be 18 years or older
    • have a level 1 competency in spoken and written English to attend this course. If you have any concerns regarding this element please contact 0345 605 0006
    • currently hold a First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate, valid for at least 12 months from the course start date. Please note that when applying for your licence after completing training, the SIA do not accept online-only First Aid training. If you wish to book onto a First Aid course, please see our First Aid courses.

    Anyone wishing to renew their Security Officer licence after expiry must retake the  L2 Security Officer Course.

    If you wish to work in licensed premises, take a look at our Door Supervisor course, which permits work in licensed premises - such as bars, clubs and stadiums.
